A severe injury delays Strasburg’s return to playing

The latest update on Strasburg’s injury has put his return on hold. The reports suggest that Strasburg has severe nerve damage and is unlikely to pitch again. Talkin’ Baseball shared the news on Twitter quoting Jesse Dougherty. The post read, “The Nationals have completely shut down Stephen Strasburg, and they fear his nerve damage could keep him from pitching ever again.”

It comes as a shocking blow to the 34-year-old pitcher and his fans. He could not play since June last season. The Nationals shut down the player after he faced problems during rehabilitation. Though the pitcher had surgery to treat thoracic outlet syndrome, the results have not been promising. There are doubts about whether he will finish his seven-year deal, worth $245 million, that he signed in 2019.

Stephen Strasburg is in his fifth year of the deal but could not play much since 2020. The 2019 World Series winner Strasburg has played only eight games in the last three seasons. It would be a disheartening end for Strasburg, who has played all his career with the Nationals since making his debut in  2010.
