Alex Rodriguez is an accomplished name in baseball, one of the greatest players MLB fans have seen in recent years. In an illustrious career that spanned 22 seasons, A-Rod made friends in different sports. One of them is the basketball legend, Magic Johnson. And as Johnson now travels a similar road as Rodriguez, the former Yankee has nothing but words of congrats for him.

A-Rod went down the business route after retiring from baseball and has built quite an empire. The former shortstop also partly owns Minnesota’s NBA and WNBA teams, the Timberwolves and the Lynx. Johnson is no stranger to business pursuits, and he is now part of a group that will acquire ownership of an infamous NFL team.

It has been a tough few years for American football as one team’s owners got plagued by one scandal after another. Amid reports of financial troubles and sexual harassment, the Washington Commanders were under fire. Apparently, not only fans but other team owners wanted the Washington team under new management. And as Dan Snyder finally agreed to sell, Magic Johnson stepped in.

The NBA legend is part of a group that includes billionaires Mitchell Rales and Josh Harris. The latter also owns the NBA’s Philadelphia 76ers and the NHL?s New Jersey Devils. As news broke of the historic sale taking place at $6 billion, a new record in the NFL, Alex Rodriguez sent words of congrats.

He tweeted, Congratulations to Josh Harris and to my dear friend @MagicJohnson. World Championships follow Magic (Lakers, Dodgers, LAFC) and his Midas Touch will continue in Washington.” Johnson is, of course, involved in the ownership of MLB’s Los Angeles Dodgers and NBA’s Los Angeles Sparks. Let’s see if he has equal success with a new sport!

Johnson and Rodriguez go way back

A-Rod has previously stated that throughout his career, be it baseball or business, he has looked up to the NBA icon as a mentor. Despite the two playing different sports, Johnson inspired the former Yankee. Both had prolific careers in their respective sports and now consider each other good friends.
