Only a few athletes go on to great success after their MLB career. While most players choose to make the most of their playing days and rely on their income to coast after they have hung up their boots, Alex Rodriguez is quite the opposite. Despite his sizable earnings in MLB, the star has achieved even more after his playing days than he did during them. Rodriguez does not shy away from giving credit where it’s due.

Vocal about his mentors in the field, A-Rod has often very openly admitted to the advice he received from his ‘mentor’ Warren Buffett about investing in opportunities. While his advice has been simple, it has held Rodriguez in good stead with his money and made him a prudent investor. At another event, the ex-baseballer spoke about all he had learned from Buffett and how he had applied that in his journey.

Alex Rodriguez has always been a keen investor showing great returns on his moves in the market so far. Whether it be with his real estate business or with his investment in the NBA, Alex has struck gold wherever he has tried. Perhaps following the simple advice that he has received from his mentor, the star has multiplied his returns. Speaking about Buffett, Rodriguez mentioned that his mentor of 20 years had great advice for him. “He just says keep things simple,” said Rodriguez. Stressing on the value of character in an entrepreneur, the Timberwolves part-owner remembers, “Number one he says, be a gentleman. Right? Always be a gentleman.” However, the real meat of the advice came a bit later.

Recalls Rodriguez, “He says buy great businesses, at a fair price. And a fair business at a great price.” Thirdly and possibly most important, Rodriguez recounts important tidbits for anyone looking to get started. Says Rodriguez, “Invest in this like you wanna own this business for years and years and years to come.

Business Advice – But Make it a Baseball Analogy

Rodriguez may have moved on to his investment journey but his roots still remain close to the ballpark. Not able to resist the opportunity, even as a part of the answer, the Yankees legend slipped into a sports analogy to explain.

Rodriguez sure has managed to connect on more than a few swings that he has taken after his retirement and most now see him for a successful businessman that he has grown to be. Maybe time will tell if the controversy will ever be ignored, but for now, Rodriguez is firmly in the conversation of greatest post-career achievers.
