Every athlete’s story starts with a dream. It involves sheer dedication, hard work, and practice to fulfill it. The same is the story of Barry Bonds, who has found all the success in his professional life. Having won multiple individual awards, Bonds was known for his hard-hitting game. But before reaching this level, he had many challenges to overcome as a part of an athletic family.

Bonds had an interesting conversation about this during the show, Forever Giants: Barry Bonds–Extended Cut, which went live four years back. He also reflected on the role of Willie Mays, as a godfather and in the surrounding community, to find his real self and path to success.

Barry Bonds had to overcome the challenge of perfection

Bonds have his name in the history books of the MLB. In his career of almost two decades, he claimed many records other than 762 home runs. Being one of the best hitters of the ball, he made it look easy as a master. But it came only after passing many tests with hard work. Though at the start, things were not simple for Bonds.

Being the son of Bobby Bonds, a star baseball player, they repeatedly put him under the test of perfection. He revealed this while answering the question of growing up in a family of a major leaguer. He said, “Well, on my dad’s end, it was difficult because my dad wanted you to be perfect. You know, my dad was always like, You always never like doing enough,” He said that because of this his siblings had chosen different directions.
While pointing out that he was part of a great athletic community, he added,” I grew up in a great community. That’s the key.” But when the host asked Bonds of the role of Mays and his father in his life, Bonds had an interesting answer. He said, “I was grateful for William, my dad, but I was even probably more grateful for my friends. I grew up in an athletic community.” Bonds eventually picked up a similar line as his family and finished a great baseball career!

A tough start to a glorious end

When it comes to the baseball records list, Barry Bonds is one of the first names. With over 2,900 games and 2,227 runs, he is one of the best performers on the plate. Winner of multiple NL MVPs, he became one of the best in the league. Even though he has varied chapters in life, continues to be a testimony of hard work. His accomplishments would continue to inspire many in the upcoming years.
