Pitching is the main focus for the New York Yankees as the off-season nears its close. The team has made moves to address outfield issues, a lack of star power, and even the starting rotation. But now the bullpen has become the top priority for the Yankees’ top brass. Although the team seemingly had some interest in Josh Hader, they missed out.
Now the Bronx Bombers’ market has developed, and their price range for relief pitchers has become clear. Although the Yankees have missed out on the top options, there are still good bullpen hurlers available. The team is eyeing a reunion with a former pitcher as they look to fill bullpen needs.

For the New York Yankees, adding quality pitching is crucial. While trading for Juan Soto, the team lost a lot of bullpen depth and is now making moves to make up for it. They added Luke Weaver, who figures to be a hybrid option as a sixth starter and reliever. But as the Yankees target a reunion with Wandy Peralta or Keynan Middleton, MLB insider Andy Martino has disclosed the market rate. In a tweet, he shared that the Yankees will be looking at options less than $11 million.
The bullpen market is starting to futher clarify, with Matt Moore, Robert Stephenson, Aroldis Chapman getting $9-11 million. A slight tier below financially are the Adam Ottavinos and Wandy Peraltas. Price-wise, this seems more a fit for both Mets and Yankees current thinking.

Martino said, “The bullpen market is starting to further clarify, with Matt Moore, Robert Stephenson, Aroldis Chapman getting $9–11 million. A slight tier below financially are the Adam Ottavinos and Wandy Peraltas. Price-wise, this seems more a fit for both Mets and Yankees current thinking.”
After seemingly missing out on Josh Hader, the Yankees are leaning toward signing Wandy Peralta or Keynan Middleton. Peralta seemingly fits into a price tag below the $9–$11 million range mentioned by Martino. But the team is looking at many options.

Pitching will be crucial to the Yankees’ 2024 season
The New York Yankees have added good outfield depth in Alex Verdugo and Trent Grisham while also making the Juan Soto trade. But more importantly, pitching is a crucial area for the pinstripes this season. In 2023, their starting rotation struggled, and the bullpen played a big role. Now, after adding Marcus Stroman to a rotation that is led by reigning AL Cy Young winner Gerrit Cole, they are looking at bullpen options. It remains to be seen whether they will add more starters at a later time.
