Could Walker Buehler be the Yankees' savior, or is he just another risky gamble?

Baseball has a way of serving the most ironic stories. This off-season might just see another in the making, with Walker Buehler at the center of it all. Buehler, the pitcher who worked as a nail in the coffin for the New York Yankees in their 2024 run in the World Series, could join the very same team. Shocked? Well, MLB Network’s Jon Morosi has reported that there is a “mutual interest” that’s been brewing between the parties. And it’s legit one of the most raging rumors of the off-season.

Now at 30, Buehler is a catch, given his colorful resume. During his prime season with the Los Angeles Dodgers from 2018 to 2021, he was on top of the franchise. He had a 2.8e ERA and over 620 strikeouts in four years. However, his journey has been far from smooth. His Tommy John surgery completely sidelined his 2023 season, and he struggled to get his footing back in the game in 2024. However, in baseball,  October has a way of revealing its genuine stars, and this is what happened.

Walker Buehler turns the spotlight to him!

Despite having a rather rough start in the regular season, it didn’t take time for Walker Buehler to get back to his groove in the playoffs. He was there for his team for an on-clutch performance. After a rather tough outing in the NLDS, Buehler pitched 13 consecutive scoreless innings. This includes his Game 3 antics against the New York Yankees in the WS. And to seal the deal, he sealed the victory by earning a save in the crucial Game 5. Now it seems like he has the attention of the Yankees themselves.

Jon Morosi mentioned, “I’ve been told there is at least some mutual interest between Walker Buehler and the New York Yankees.” Well, if this prediction or rumor comes true—what a storyline would it be! And for the Yankees, Buehler indeed could be the missing piece, given their 2024 rotation was riddled with inconsistency. Barring Gerrit Cole, Carlos Rodon, Nestor Cortes Jr., and Luis Gil all struggled to stay healthy. Hence, Buehler’s playoff pedigree can help strengthen their rotation and also take some pressure off Cole’s shoulder.

However, Morosi also pointed out that the extent of the Yankees’s interest is still unclear. But if both sides are serious, this could be a move that reshapes the Yankee future and flips the script to one of their most painful moments.

Buehler turns down the A’s!

The Oakland Athletics are officially saying goodbye to Oakland and have their sights set on Las Vegas. But before they settle in there, they have a pit stop in Sacramento. The team will play at Sutter Health Park; it’s the grounds of the San Francisco Giants Triple-A. However, while that is sorted, it seems like taking in new talent to play in the minor league stadium is not all that simple.

Oakland A’s manager, Mark Kotsay, during a recent chat at the USC Sports Business Association Summit, had talked about possibly signing pitcher Walker Buehler to the team. Just fresh off his second World Series title, Buehler could be a game-changer for the team. However, Kotsay did mention that Buehler just wasn’t into pitching in Sacramento – it seems like he is looking for a more glamorous landing spot than a minor-league park. Although Sacramento’s dimension sure is similar to the Oakland Coliseum.

Buehler is the candy to many teams, and hence for A’s, clinching him may be a distant dream, even if they are ready to shell out cash. Sacramento isn’t drawing the players like the team had hoped for, so, where do you think Buehler will go next season? Let us know,
