The Toronto Blue Jays’ star first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. may get a big surprise! Although it looks like Vladdy is going to be traded, he’s now been directly compared with superstars Shohei Ohtani and Juan Soto. This may further make his dream not look far-fetched, given that Guerrero Jr. is looking for a massive $600 million contract like the other two. Does it look possible?

Both Ohtani and Soto are superstars, as well, and the entire world knows it. While Shohei Ohtani signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers for a massive 10-year, $700 million deal, Juan Soto’s contract with the New York Mets is even bigger—a 15-year, $765 million deal. But looking at Vladimir Guerrero Jr.’s record, fetching such a record deal isn’t unlikely, but is he correct in asking for such a hefty deal?

Well, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. had a quite good 2024 season, as he batted at an average of.323 with.396 OBP and.940 OPS along with 30 home runs and 103 RBIs too. Although his offense was on the decline, Guerrero Jr. managed to deliver a resurgent campaign, getting selected in the All-Star team, but that’s not all! He even made the solo home run to the centre field during the spring training, which led the Blue Jays to win by 2-0. Looking at his numbers, Guerrero Jr.’s cost per AVG point per year is $208,333, which is higher than Soto’s $178,947 but not better than Ohtani’s $248,226. Still, numbers cannot lie, isn’t it?

Definitely, Vladdy’s stats are right near the other two, and he is just 25 years old, which makes him a great bet for any team. Moreover, Guerrero Jr. could also be looked upon in the long term, as he is not only a marketer’s dream but also has great brand value, which makes him suitable in the case of selling merchandise and promoting engagement of fans.

But considering that he is an excellent hitter and will offer a better cost-per-stat ratio, then why do the Blue Jays seem unwilling to sign him for the preferred amount?

What’s your perspective on:

Is Vladimir Guerrero Jr. worth a $600 million contract, or is he overestimating his market value?

The Blue Jays look unsure of the contract extension

While the 25-year-old first baseman’s dream of making $600 million doesn’t look far away, the Toronto Blue Jays haven’t yet come to a decision to extend his contract. The reason? Well, Guerrero Jr. has himself called it quits, confirming no signing of the contract extension, calling it entirely a business move to be precise. He even clearly mentioned that he wouldn’t settle for an undervalued contract and would like to move to the free agency trade for listening to other teams and finally coming to a conclusion.

However, the Blue Jays will trade him if they can’t reach the playoffs and if they get a better deal, trading him to their archrival, the Boston Red Sox. But there are other teams as well, including the New York Mets and Chicago Cubs, who are also eyeing him.

But considering that the slugger becomes a free agent and Toronto is not willing to extend his contract, the Boston Red Sox may just not leave such an opportunity. As the Red Sox aren’t willing to play Triston Casas as their first baseman, the addition of Vladdy could be a great bet for them. Moreover, they have a whole lot of players that they could trade just to draw the attention of Vladimir Guerrero Jr., and a prime example could be trading Wilyer Abreu. However, there’s still some time left till the free agency trade happens next winter.
