Oakland Athletics legend Vida Blue passes away at 73

When the news about the pitcher was announced, fans were left mourning the loss of a legend. Although his family has chosen to keep the cause of death private, they made it known that his last moments were peaceful. The Athletics posted a statement on Twitter honoring their legendary pitcher and remembering his impact. Furthermore, fans have also shared messages paying respect to Blue and his legacy. 

In a Tweet, the Athletics said, “There are few players with a more decorated career than Vida Blue. He was a three-time champion, an MVP, a six-time All-Star, a Cy Young Award winner, and an Oakland A’s Hall of Famer. Vida will always be a franchise legend and a friend. We send our deepest condolences to his family and friends during this arduous time.”

By doing so, he became the youngest-ever MVP in MLB history at 22 years old. The Athletics has lost a true legend in the 73-year-old pitcher. He won 3 World Series titles but was also cursed on the biggest stage.

Vida Blue was a legendary pitcher who won 3 World Series titles. But he was cursed on baseball’s biggest stage. Despite winning 3 titles, he was unable to win a single game during those three World Series appearances. He pitched in 8 World Series games between 1972 and 1974 but went 0-3 in all.
