How heartbreaking is hope? After the bottom of the 7th inning, the New York Yankees began to dream again. From being behind 4 runs to just being behind 1, Gleyber Torres had suddenly opened up the game for them. Would it happen again? Will the Bronx Bombers pull a win out of a defeat? Not on this day. What felt like the beginning of a wildfire turned out to be just a flicker and the Seattle Mariners completed a second straight victory over them. That has left Aaron Boone fuming.

The Yankees skipper knows that Torres’ hit had given them a golden opportunity to stage a comeback. In a game where the Mariners’ Bryan Woo threw six scoreless innings, Torres’ homer could’ve proven to be a decisive one. But then the rest of the Yankees hitters failed to take advantage of the situation. Aaron Boone commented on it during his post-game conference.

When asked about Torres’ at-bat, Boone had nothing but praises for the star. “Really good at bat, really good. That’s what he’s capable of,” Boone said. However, the skipper was a little disappointed. “So another big hit for him to get us right back into it. Unfortunately, we couldn’t get it beyond that. But definitely a good at-bat by him in a big spot.”

Apart from Torres’ home run, the Yankees were able to get only 4 other hits in the entire game. That’s the sign of a team whose offense was completely negated by the opposition. But while that is a concerning sign, the Bronx Bombers can at least take solace from one thing – Gleyber Torres is back in form.

However, the slugger wasn’t completely satisfied with his performance. His post-game conference showed that there’s still a long way to go before Torres can return to his absolute best.

Gleyber Torres remains hopeful as the New York Yankees get ready for another battle

Torres had perhaps one of the worst starts of his career this year. The superstar was initially slated for the leadoff role, but that was quickly taken away from him due to his bad form. With confidence leaving his side, fans wondered whether they’d see Torres’ best in his walk year. But this massive home run proves that there’s still some fire left in his belly. So when he was asked about how he felt on the plate, Torres had a mixed answer.

“I see a lot of working. Mentally feels good. I get feeling that I’m getting better and better,” Torres said. “But still, I don’t see some (pitches), but I’m living day to day and trying to feel more consistency every time.” So as it stands, Torres is feeling good. Still, with the star saying he isn’t catching everything, the Yankees fans will have to wait before they can see their superstar in his full swagger again.
