Blake Snell is the best pitcher available in free agency right now. But his time on the market has been extremely up-and-down this off-season. With several teams showing initial interest in the lefty ace, that number has dwindled as his free agency progressed. Now Snell’s options remain unclear with Spring Training drawing near.

The southpaw pitcher is coming off an NL Cy Young-winning campaign. His stock as a player should be at its highest. But with many sides hesitant to splash copious amounts of cash, he has not signed with a team just yet. Furthermore, it is unknown where he will end up.

As the days and weeks have progressed for Blake Snell, his free agency continues to get cloudier. Most recently, it was revealed that the Los Angeles Angels seemed to be the favorites to sign him after seemingly exiting sweepstakes. But there is no clarity on what negotiations have taken place. It is further unknown whether another team has offered him a deal after the New York Yankees were shut down.

The Bombers had made an offer of $150 million for the ace-level pitcher. But Snell and his agent Scott Boras rejected the offer and made their demands known. The lefty ace is seemingly demanding a deal in the range of $240 million and $270 million. This is a massive amount of money for a 31-year-old pitcher with durability concerns.

It will be interesting to see where Blake Snell signs and the value of his contract. With his current valuation, it will be hard to find a team. But with negotiation, a deal may be reached that satisfies both parties. There is likely one factor that the ace will not compromise on.

While rejecting the Yankees’ offer, a longer deal is one of the things the lefty ace asked for, but no matter how good he is, a 7-year pact is possibly the longest contract any team will be willing to commit to.
