The New York Yankees couldn’t get it done once again. Multiple times this season, the Bronx Bombers have failed when the chips were down. Surprisingly, it has been their offense that has disappointed until now. April 25th was no different; the Yankees had multiple opportunities to score but couldn’t. As a result, the Pinstripes lost, 3-1, to the Oakland Athletics, who ended up tying the series. While fans weren’t happy, the skipper, Aaron Boone, too rued his team’s missed opportunities.
There were multiple moments throughout the game where the Yankees had their bases loaded. However, in each of those moments, the A’s pitchers found a way to escape. What’s worrying is that the starting pitcher for the A’s was Alex Wood – the man who entered this game with a 7.89 ERA. The fact that the Bronx Bombers could get only one run out of him was a shocking development.
In his postgame conference, Aaron Boone commented on the Yankees’ lost chances. The skipper shared that Wood made some pitches and put the Bombers “on the ground in some key spots.” Moreover, Boone wasn’t happy with how the Pinstripes dealt with pressure whenever they had their bases loaded.

“What we have 14-15 base runners I think tonight and just unable to cash them in other than the Trevy homer. You got all those opportunities you want to take advantage of.” Boone said. “Ultimately you do in you want to create that traffic but you got to deliver on it and we weren’t able to do that tonight.”

For the New York Yankees, this is yet another reminder that things could go south at any time for them. The Athletics aren’t a team that’s expected to put up great numbers. So drawing a series with them isn’t something that the Bronx Bombers would like. Especially if it happens after an abject batting display by the offensive lineup.
How the hitters failed the New York Yankees
The New York Yankees flattered to deceive on Wednesday. From Aaron Judge to Juan Soto, everyone contributed to that game. However, on Thursday, things took a weird turn for the Pinstripes. Despite getting 11 hits, the Bronx Bombers couldn’t score more than 1 run. The issue? They couldn’t hit when the bases were loaded. An example of this came in the very first inning.

Within the first 7 pitches, the Yankees had covered all the bases. But then Giancarlo Stanton struck out, and Anthony Rizzo grounded into a double play. That was something that kept repeating after that. Every time the Yankees filled the bases, their hitter couldn’t make a clutch hit. It’s illustrated by the fact that out of those 11 hits, only 1 came with a runner on the base.
That is a worrying sign for the Yankees. Especially because their hitters still haven’t found their best form. Now that the season is almost a month old, one wonders just how much more time the offense needs to pull itself together. They need to be quick, the New York Yankees’ fanbase is getting restless.
