The Los Angeles Dodgers have mastered the art of recruiting elite international prospects. When they go for a name, they just don’t talk about the on-field performance, they ‘woo’ the players! Imagine this: an impromptu tour of the stadium, a highlight video of how much better you’ll be donning a Dodgers’ jersey followed by a dinner. It’s basically the baseball equivalent of a first date and as Dodgers pitcher Tyler Glasnow revealed, it’s working wonders.

“I think it’s just like, let me woo you,” Glasnow explained, adding, “I’m basically taking you out on a date. This is what your life could be.” He went on to describe how the team makes sure the prospect knows they aren’t just another player. From the moment they step into the stadium to the lavish meals, it’s clear that the Dodgers aim to leave a lasting impression. This isn’t just a pitch; it’s a vision of what their life could look like with the team.

But beyond the dinners and the charm, the Dodgers also ensure that the player knows they are serious about development. “I am sure the teams run through presentations of like this how we could make you better type of thing. We have been studying you for a long time like here’s a video from way over here and now it’s here”  It’s all about showing the player that they’re not just another name on a roster—they’re a cornerstone of the team’s future. The Dodgers’ strategy isn’t about all the charm but also convincing the player that joining the team is the next logical step to reaching their fullest potential.

Dodgers’ pursuit of top prospect Roki Sasaki.

The Dodgers have established a strong reputation for developing talent, particularly pitchers. The team’s success in developing young talents such as Walker Buehler, and Clayton Kershaw has added to it. When it comes to wooing young international talent like Roki Sasaki, the team takes a strategic approach that focuses on both on-the-field opportunities and the overall environment they can provide. By offering Sasaki a spot on the MLB roster, the Dodgers would allow him the opportunity to test his abilities against the best players in the world. This would be appealing for a young player like Sasaki, who may want to prove himself on the grand stage of the MLB.

Sasaki, like many international prospects, would be attracted to a team that regularly competes for championships. Having recently won the World Series, Roki would be provided the stage to gain significant exposure on a national stage. Additionally, the Dodgers have a history with Japanese origin players, Shohei Ohtani and Kenta Maeda being the perfect examples, which could be another factor in appealing to Sasaki.

However it’s now up to Roki to decide, the ball is in his court. With their winning culture, top-tier player development, and the promise of a stage where talent truly shines, could the Dodgers be the perfect destination for Roki Sasaki to fulfill his potential and become the next great MLB pitcher?
