Shohei Ohtani has managed to capture the attention of the nation ever since he debuted in Major League Baseball. Signing with the LA Angels in 2017 meant the team added a huge talent to their roster and the Japanese player has proved his worth ever since. Ohtani has quickly become one of the greatest two-way threats baseball has seen in a long time, and now he’s taking his skills to World Baseball Classic.

Ohtani has the kind of talent that makes die-hard fans of even his teammates. Unfortunately for them, they will now have to face the potential 2023 MVP on an opposite team as WBC comes up. The 28-year-old is returning home to Japan for the exhibition game and will play partially in Tokyo. But before that happens, Ohtani paid a surprise visit to the US Embassy in Japan and earned huge praise from a US Official.

History may have shown us terse relations between Japan and the U.S. but the love of baseball is bringing everyone together. Ohtani received a hero’s welcome in Japan as his plane landed and it was only natural – Shotime is playing for his home country after five long years! And one can count Rahm Emanuel among those loyal fans.

The US Ambassador to Japan received a surprise visit from the two-way star recently and he took to Twitter to express his delight. Emanuel wrote, “Wasn’t expecting this curveball, but… SHOtime came to the U.S. Embassy! No better representative of the shared 🇺🇸🇯🇵 national pastime than Ohtani-san. He’s changed the history of the game in Japan and America. @Angels @MLB”
