Shohei Ohtani has established his dominance in MLB over the last couple of seasons, taking home AL MVP in 2021. This trend seems to be continuing in 2023 as he has begun the MLB season with some great outings. Both his great hitting and batting have been put on display while suiting up for the Los Angeles Angels. 

Furthermore, the Angels have gotten into a bit of a groove, winning 4 games and only losing 2 so far. Most recently, Ohtani shared a 12-hour secret that makes up an integral portion of his daily routine.

Shohei Ohtani: What does he do 12 hours a day?

Many fans may wonder what Los Angeles Angels star Shohei Ohtani does to play baseball at his elite level. Most recently, he revealed the routine that allows him to be arguably the best two-way player in baseball today. It revolves heavily around sleep, with Ohtani napping for 12 hours a day. A Twitter User with the handle @shoheisaveus shared the information in a recent post, translating Ohtani’s words.

According to the Tweet, Ohtani said that he “practice for more than 6 hours without taking a break from muscle training in the off-season, take a nap for 2 hours, eat again, & sleep for more than 10 hours. About half of the day is spent on sleep.” In the tweet, they further said, “Ohtani said that he calls sleep ‘recovery’” and “Shohei sleeps 12hrs a day.”

This is a knowledgeable insight into the lifestyle and routine of one of baseball’s biggest superstars. Ohtani recently won the World Baseball Classic and is aiming to make the postseason with the Angels. This sleep cycle and workout regimen helps the two-way phenom stay at the top of his game. Furthermore, it seems to have helped him prevent his body from breaking down.

Ohtani had frequent injuries early in his career

Shohei Ohtani has become much more durable over the last couple of seasons. Before that, during his early career, he struggled with injuries and fitness issues. Following a difficult season in 2020, Ohtani revamped his approach to training, producing great results in his 2021 AL MVP season. Even last year he was on top of his game, finishing second in AL MVP voting.
