21-Year-Old New York Yankees Prospect Reveals an Unrealistic Dream That Derek Jeter Once Had Before His Legendary Career

Baseball legend Derek Jeter is undoubtedly one of the best in the entire big league ever to step foot in the ballpark. Through his storied career in the game, his legacy will forever continue to be an inspiration for generations of players to come. But will a player ever come that would be as determined and obsessed with the game as he was? 

At one point, it may have seemed like there might not be another Derek Jeter. But little did people know only eight years after his retirement, one player would show the same characteristics that the five-times world series winner once depicted as a young boy. That player is Yankees Triple-A star player, twenty-one-year-old Anthony Volpe. 

How is the emerging star of the Yankees similar to Derek Jeter?

Jeter’s obsession with growing up and playing shortstop for the New York Yankees is not hidden from anyone. During Captain Clutch’s boyhood, his dreams were often considered crazy. Not many believed in him, but Jeter didn’t care. He was set to become a Yankees’ shortstop, which is exactly how his life turned out.

Volpe, who grew up idolizing Jeter, inhabited the same obsession as him. Although it’s a long way for Volpe to become the next Derek Jeter, the early signs are indeed in favor of him. In an interview with the New York Post, the young prospect recently talked about his dreams of being in a Yankees uniform as a young boy. While talking about what he wanted to become when he grew up, he said, “‘New York Yankees player, shortstop for the Yankees.’ … I’m sure the dreams were crazy back then, but now it’s kind of turned from dreams to goals. … Just focus on those.”

The twenty-one-year-old is not only getting compared to Jeter but has already started having his own fanbase. 

Yankees fans want the young prospect to be on the opening day’s roster

As many know, spring training started a couple of weeks ago, and the regular season is not far away either. However, might the team have been performing in the spring training, Volpe has already won many hearts. The amazing home runs by him have made him a fan favorite.
