With Judge breaking records, is he the greatest Yankee since Jeter?

Being one of the fierce hitters in MLB for the 2022 season, Aaron Judge is again turning back time. It’s mid-season 2024, and Aaron Judge has yet another record in his name. In a recent match against the Cincinnati Reds, Judge surpassed Mike Trout. He is the leading player in wRC+, having a scoring rate of 170. Well, Mike Trout is just behind him, being one of the best hitters for over a decade.  Until Judge’s game, Trout led the charge with 169 wRC+, followed by other MLB stars.

Back in 2022, Aaron Judge showed a glimpse of his hitting abilities and played the season for ages. He broke Roger Maris’s team and the American League record with 62 homers. However, after enjoying the success, Judge landed on the IL with a hip strain, which he suffered while awkwardly sliding into third base in a game vs. the Twins. This year, after coming back from a series of injuries, it seems he’s a much stronger man. Sharing a few thoughts on Judge’s record, MLB Now’s Brian Kenny explained his say on the fierce hitter.

Heading into the Wednesday game, Aaron hit at .321/.440/.718 surpassing Mike Trout’s unbreakable wRC+. Hailing the legend in the making, Brian Kenny applauded, saying, ”Do, we realize that we are watching the best hitter of the generation?” In MLB, there are lots of ways to measure the hitting. While Judge hasn’t been a consistent hitter, the last three years have been tremendous for him. He has gone to the full Hall of Fame at an all-time great level.

Speaking about the weight runs created plus (wRC+) of Aaron Judge, the numbers are impressive. Over the last three seasons, he averages 201. Simply, that’s the strength of two men, as per Brian Kenny.

Additionally, further analyzing Mike Trout with Aaron Judge, Brian said, “Right now, for his full career, he is in fact the leading hitter of his generation. We are using weights runs created plus, it’s a great way to evaluate hitting.” Without a doubt, seeing the hitters who debuted in 1994 or later, Aaron is leading the charts where Trout has just fallen the charts. Of course, the Yankees rising star Juan Soto (157) Phillies and Bryce Harper (143) are on the great list. However, reaching the level of Judge’s wRC+ for the two will still take them a few more years. For Aaron Judge, who is already in a league of his own, it looks like he is ready for the Triple Crown award.

Could Aaron Judge be the Triple Crown winner?

In the 2024 season, Aaron Judge is boasting some crazy numbers. He is leading the league in home runs (32), RBIs, 82, and an excellent .318 batting average. Seeing his recent performance, it seems Aaron Judge could be the Triple Crown winner. The last time was when Miguel Cabrera won back in 2012. Before that? Boston Red Sox’s Cari Yastrezemski clinched the crown in 1967.  In total, there have been only 17 instances when the Triple Crown has been awarded in MLB history.

Rising high on confidence, if Judge somehow manages to win it, he would be just the third Yankee to do it. Previously, the legendary Mickey Mantle and Lou Gehrig were poised for the elusive crown. Interestingly, like Judge, Mickey played in the Centerfield, just like Judge’s current MLB position. While it means nothing, it could be significant if Aaron does the impossible.

Also, keeping Aaron’s impressive wRC numbers aside, it seems he is on track for another record. For the 2024 season, fans could see him go in double digits for the fWAR. His recent form against the teams Judge has played shows he could achieve those numbers. Perhaps Aaron Judge, after surpassing Mike Trout, is looking in tremendous form. Eventually, will he clinch the Triple Crown and make it a fairy tale ending to his 2024 season? What do you think? Let us know in the comments!
