MLB is a few games away from getting their World Series Challengers for the 2023 season. Though multiple heavyweights are in the line for this glory, there is a dark horse, the Arizona Diamondbacks. The Torey Lovullo-led side has come as a surprise this season. A team that qualified for the postseason on a wildcard is just a win away from revenging their 2017 loss, all thanks to their lead over division rivals the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NDLS.

It is commendable, given that the D-Backs have a payroll budget of less than the league’s average. The entire organization, including the skipper, deserves praise for making this possible. Steering against all odds, Lovullo has brought the Snakes closer to the championship without fearing about his future two decades after their last title. Special? Isn’t it? Well, as incredible as it sounds, the 2023 fairytale with the Dbacks might still be not enough for Lovullo to save his job.

It has been a season to remember for the Arizona Diamondbacks and manager Torey Lovullo but the world got a glimpse of this when the 58-year-old joined the 2001 champions in 2017. He led them to their first postseason after five years in the first season as a manager, stamping his authority.

Given that he came with the experience of over 300 games as an MLB manager, everyone expected it to happen. Moreover, Lovullo’s success with the Toronto Blue Jays and Boston Red Sox as a bench coach, including a World Series in 2013, added to the claims.

But everything changed after that. The Snakes lost the momentum and missed playoffs for five straight seasons. However, the management continued to trust in him, which reaped the returns. They made it to the playoffs with a second-place finish in the NL West.

Continuing the same, they first swept the Milwaukee Brewers and on the road to sweep the Dodgers to claim another playoff win. It will also guarantee them their first NLCS after the 2007 season. If this happens, it would be huge. But will this change Lovullo’s future in Arizona?

Will Doubts Over Lovullo’s Future Clear in the Upcoming Days

When you are on a low budget, the expectations are often low, and the priority is to sustain amidst the competition. But the Arizona Diamondbacks have proved this theory wrong. The $127 million budgeted team has done amazingly well. With a lead of over 2-0 in NDLS, is one way from moving closer to the NL Pennant. Manager Torey Lovullo deserves the credit. But does the Dbacks’ front office feel the same?

Reportedly, the 2017 NL Manager of the Year has a contract until 2024. Reports also say that no discussion has happened over his future with Arizona. Although the D-Backs have extended the contract of general manager Mike Hazen through 2028, no concrete update on Lovullo raises many questions.

However, it seems the manager is not concerned about it. Although he wishes to stay for a lifetime with the Snakes, his current focus is only Fall Classic. Also, given that the team has done well, it could be their first trophy in decades. But if they fail to do so, it can affect his contract with the team. Will that be the case? Only time will tell!
