The Dodgers’ World Series champion, Anthony Banda, is all praise for his friend and teammate Enrique Hernandez. Since Hernandez became a free agent, he hasn’t found any takers yet. With just a few more days to go for the Dodgers’ catchers and pitchers to report to the Camelback Ranch in Glendale for spring training, Anthony Banda wishes to see Hernandez back on the team. But why is it so?
In addition to being Banda’s close friend, Hernandez has received recognition for his outstanding 2024 postseason play, which contributed to the Dodgers’ eighth World Series victory. Enrique Hernandez averaged 229 with 42 RBIs, 12 home runs, and.654 OPS. While the Dodgers hope to see him back, there’s another team eyeing him—the Cleveland Guardians, maybe?

After giving an astounding performance in the 2024 postseason, free agent Enrique Hernandez has been unable to find the perfect landing spot yet. Many Dodgers fans are hoping that Hernandez and the Dodgers will reunite, but the Dodgers president of baseball operations has stated that there are no plans to close Hernandez’s contract. On February 9, the Dodgers’ pitcher, Anthony Banda, said in an interview with the Dodgers Nation, “He’s definitely top-3 in my category as far as teammates… I would love to see him back.” Banda cited that the whole LA team wants him back, not just because he had a great 2024 season but also because of his ability to enhance the energy in the team.

As per the statement by Anthony Banda, Enrique Hernandez was even a prankster sometimes, but that did keep the energy high in the team and a good atmosphere. He went on to say that being a good friend, he would remain in his top 3, who had a great impact on him, both as a player and friend. However, although he had some great moments in the postseason, Hernandez’s OPS for the past few seasons has been just 78. With the signing of Hyeseong Kim by the Los Angeles Dodgers, the chances of his return look unlikely. But the Cleveland Guardians are eyeing Hernandez too.
Cleveland Guardians emerge as a top contender for Enrique Hernandez
While the Cleveland Guardians emerge as a top contender in pursuit of the free agent’s services, Enrique Hernandez could be the missing piece in the puzzle. But with the anticipation for the spring training growing, there is some potential gap in the Guardians’ lineup, as a result of which, despite an impressive 92-win record in the regular season, the offseason tactics have been somewhat limited. This has further prompted the Guardians to add seasoned players to bolster their ranks, and Hernandez might be the perfect fit.

Enrique Hernandez could offer something more than just his defensive skills; his ability to play at different positions offers better flexibility. Furthermore, it aligns with the Guardians’ strategic move in managing positional flexibility. Not only would his adaptability enable the Cleveland Guardians to configure their lineup best suited for the games, but they could also look at him as a leadership prospect who could guide the younger talents while promoting team cohesion and consistent development.
