The Shohei Ohtani debate continues. Ohtani, who is a baseball superstar with the Los Angeles Angels, is set to hit free agency after the 2023 season. His potential future has been the topic of discussion for months now, with no end in sight. Ohtani dominates on both sides of the ball and is a player the likes of which haven’t been seen since Babe Ruth. A player who made his MLB debut in 2018, Sho-time has steadily risen through the ranks ever since.

His popularity hit an all-time high after the World Baseball Classic and Ohtani has only continued to prove why he deserves the status he has gained. Although the recent few weeks had him in a rut, the 28-year-old is back with his signature talent. Now the question is – where does he go from here? Could it be the Boston Red Sox? A top official answered recently.

From the New York Mets to the Los Angeles Dodgers, a lot of names have come forward as possible future destinations for Ohtani. Steve Cohen’s pursuit of the Japanese player is well known since he even flew to Japan to watch him in the WBC. Not only that, but the Dodgers serve as a better home for Ohtani since they’re in the same city as the Angels. Rumor has it that he wants to stay in LA because of its proximity to his home country of Japan.

But even if Boston is on the East Coast, MassLive’s Chris Cotillo thinks the Red Sox could be a possibility. When someone asked the team’s Chief Baseball Officer about it, Chaim Bloom gave a neutral answer.

“You know, I get asked that every time I come out here and I have to give the same answer, which is that we can’t talk about it…somebody else’s player,” Bloom said. Some analysts think the Red Sox could be in contention but given the team’s current state, they would have to give up too much to make such a trade.

 Fans want Ohtani in Boston

In the recent match-up between the Angels and the Red Sox, the Los Angeles team won 2-1. Even so, it seems like Boston fans are not salty and want Ohtani on their team.

Some wondered why fans were asking Bloom, a baseball executive, to sign their balls in the clip.

One fan pointed out that Bloom didn’t say an outright ‘no’.

Most are excited to see Ohtani in Boston if it ever happens.
