Pitcher Todd Peterson is yet to make his debut in Major League Baseball. So he is making some grand preparations. He has a grand reputation in the minor league, for his impactful pitching. However, as it seems, when he plays in the major league, he wants to be effective in more than one department.?

Todd Peterson is a minor league pitcher. He has excelled both as a starter and relief pitcher. He has played for numerous minor league baseball teams, most famously with the Louisiana State University Tigers.?

The Tigers were once facing elimination in the South-Eastern Conference baseball tournament. They were leading 4-3 at the top of the 12th inning, with two men at the bases and two batters dismissed. Cut short on the options, the Tigers coach, Paul Mainieri, turned to Peterson.?

The desire of Todd Peterson to swing the bat?

Todd Peterson was an odd choice from the technical perspective. But having lost the designated hitter, he was the best option to go with. Interestingly, Peterson had pitched five stellar relief innings in the game. So next it was about delivering a memorable performance with the bat for him.?

Paul Mainieri advised Peterson to keep the bat on his shoulder, attempting no shots. But Peterson managed to persuade Mainieri into letting him smash the ball. Peterson told Mainieri that he used to hit bombs when in high school.?

Talking to a reporter in a post-game interview about the coach’s instructions, Peterson said, “Well, I mean, at first, he said, you know, just go up there. Don’t swing the bat, don’t do anything. And then, a change of pitch. And I was like, he’s getting scared out there. He’s like, yeah, do you ever hit high school? I go, I hit bombs. He’s like, alright, swing away.”??

Later, during a press meet in the presence of Mainieri, Peterson got asked by a reporter about his last competitive batting experience. Peterson replied saying, “Uh, high school I guess. Coach, I’ll be honest, I didn’t hit in high school. My coach let me, you know. I hit BP a couple times, you know. I did hit nukes, I’ll tell you that.” Mainieri was shocked at Peterson’s confession and remarked towards the end saying, “Thank you for lying to me, Todd.”?

The positive outcome of the optimistic attitude?

As a result of Peterson’s fiery approach, the Tigers won the game. His lie worked for the team. Moreover, he turned into an internet sensation in the baseball community.?
