As the world marinates in the unpredictability of life, some special people leave an indelible mark. One such person was the legendary knuckleballer, Tim Wakefield. Recently, a snippet of wisdom from the late legend?s rulebook of life has emerged. As overwhelming as it is to reminisce about the man?s times, it is fulfilling to receive his wisdom long after he has passed.?

On October 1st, the Boston Red Sox star and 2x World Series champion tragically passed away. The 2009 All-Star was 57 when he succumbed to complications from cerebral cancer. The whole baseball world lamented the death of one of the few great knuckleballers to ever exist. Though the Boston Red Sox Hall of Famer isn?t here in the flesh and blood, his words reflect his presence.?

Earlier this week, Stacy Stover, Wakefield?s widow, shared her late husband?s prized words with the world. As tweeted by @RealBobbyOrr, the message read, ?Never forget where you came from. Be a mentor to others. You didn’t get to where you are today by yourself and no matter what status you accomplish in life, you should assume the responsibility to help those who are less fortunate than you.?

What 2010 Roberto Clemente Award winner had penned down is reflective of his genuine desire to contribute to the world. The message went on to shed light on the importance of giving and Wakefield?s take on this was unique.?

Having been associated with multiple charities during his time, the ex-baseballer shared that he received much more than he ever gave. Speaking of superficial possessions, he wrote that over time; he understood what?s more important than money, houses, and cars. As per Tim, the only thing that matters is, ?did you make a difference in someone else?s life??

With that, one cannot help but notice what an amazing man this Red Sox ace was. His will to impart profoundly to the world became evident as he approached the end of his career.?The father of two received Major League Baseball’s Roberto Clemente Award in 2010 after being nominated 8 times overall. As he wound up his career, the world recognized him for his community and humanitarian activities.

The ex-pitcher was so powerful that John W. Henry, the owner of the Red Sox, said, ?He not only captivated us on the field but was the rare athlete whose legacy extended beyond the record books to the countless lives he touched with his warmth and genuine spirit?. That calls for some insights into the Florida-born star.?

The Legacy That Tim Wakefield Has Left Behind

Wakefield played in 627 games throughout his 19 big-league seasons. Not only was he one of the last notable knuckleball players in the majors, but also accumulated a 1.79 strikeout-to-walk ratio and a 4.41 ERA. Wakefield started his career with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1992. After his 1995 season, he signed with the Red Sox. He made his Boston debut at the age of 28 and rose to an all-time leader in games started and innings pitched. Wakefield now stands sixth in WAR and third in wins altogether. With that legacy, he breathed his last in Massachusetts, leaving behind his wife, son, and daughter.??
