The Yankees seem on another losing case with their right fielder Giancarlo Stanton. The slugger reportedly suffers from ailing elbows, which just got amplified at the start of spring training. Stanton was much productive in last year’s postseason. Hence, it might prove too costly for the Yankees to lose him this year. Why so? Just take a look at his last year.
In 2024, Giancarlo Stanton had a .233 batting average, 27 home runs, and 72 RBIs in 114 games for the Yankees. He also had 49 runs scored and 20 doubles. In the 2024 postseason, Stanton had a .273 batting average, 7 home runs, and 16 RBIs in 14 games. While the Yankees may deal with his absence in the regular season, Stanton’s last year postseason run will be a challenge to replace. As a stop gap, remedial measures have been implemented.
The Yankees revealed that the slugger will have to return to New York for PRP injections in both of his injured elbows. Surgery is considered as the last resort. “Last resort,” said the Yankees GM Brian Cashman, on the probability of Stanton getting operated. So, is there any chance for Giancarlo Stanton to get back to action soon?

The short answer is yes, if surgery is not required. The Yankees revealed that the slugger will return to New York on Monday for another round of PRP injections in both of his injured elbows, just hours after he was reunited with his teammates in their spring camp in Tampa.
According to MLB insider Greg Joyce, this will be Stanton’s third round of PRP. He is expected to join the spring training this weekend once the situation improves. But the looming question on everyone’s mind is: how are the Yankees equipped to deal with an indefinite absence of Giancarlo Stanton?

The Yankees lineup sans Stanton
While the Yankees are well-equipped to deal with Stanton’s absence, it might cause a significant reshuffle in their lineup. With Aaron Judge moving into the designated hitter position, Trent Grisham moving into center field, and Cody Bellinger moving from center to right, the Yankees are probably going to implement a reconfigured outfield. With Grisham adding a great glove in the center, this is an improvement defensively. Additionally, it lessens the chance of injury for Judge, who is the Yankees’ MVP going into the season as the current AL MVP. Thus, the Yankees have a few in-house candidates to take Stanton’s place.

Moreover, when Grisham isn’t in the lineup, moving a regular to DH, rookie Ben Rice and non-roster invitee Dominic Smith might get some attention. The Yankees are left with fewer choices and power as a result of Stanton’s injury, even though it may push them into a more defensively sound outfield position. “We’ll see; we’ve got a few weeks until we get there,” said the Yankees manager, Aaron Boone. This reflects how much the Yankees are still desperate to get back Stanton, and a final update regarding him will be no soon.
