Amid rigorous talks of acquiring new free agents, the New York Yankees are at a crucial juncture. With multiple names getting linked to the team, big and small, there is a controversial name that has come up. But here’s the real deal; would the Yanks really pursue this formerly suspended pitcher?

Turns out, allegedly tenured folks at the Big Apple are hesitant about Trevor Bauer. So what’s the history like? According to a report by Jon Heyman of The New York Post, this pitcher is attempting to restart his career in MLB. Since a woman accused him of sexual assault in June 2021, Bauer has not pitched in the major leagues. Will he make a comeback with NYY? Or would he have to find a “team on another planet”?

Is There Even A Slight Chance That The New York Yankees Would Pursue This Pitcher?

Well, there is a lot of chatter around this subject. However, to filter it down, there are three reasons why it’s unlikely that New York would acquire. The allegations due to which he was exiled, rumors say, have just been settled, rather than him being proven innocent. Moreover, the Yankees’ ace, Gerrit Cole, hasn’t been too fond of him since UCLA days. Keeping relationships aside, he is also said to have only 2 decent seasons, being 31 years old. These alleged points only strengthen the argument that Bauer might not be wearing pinstripes.

It’s uncertain if Bauer, who was reinstated after serving a 194-game suspension, will land a position in the Major League Baseball ever again. Considering the repercussions of having a controversial player onboard is complicated to handle. Hence, owners will be the deciding factor. Though many baseball executives in the industry may be delighted to give such a capable talent a try, will they though?

Instead of releasing him straight, the Los Angeles Dodgers partially designated him as a DFA in an attempt to give themselves a chance to trade him out of their division. They undoubtedly wished to prevent the San Diego Padres from signing him. As the San Diego Union-Tribune first revealed, it turns out that the Padres won’t either.

Although there is an outside conjecture that he behaved well during his time as a Cincinnati Red, and some of their people like him. With that, is there a possibility he could land himself on any MLB team? Gerrit Cole would certainly say ‘No’.

‘Cole Train’ and Bauer had a rocky relationship starting from their college days. Cole allegedly insulted the latter, commenting on his work ethic, which Trevor did not take well. Hence, started a long-lasting rivalry which was fueled even further when Cole made it to the Yankees and the former Dodger got entwined in scandalous headlines.

What Are the Chances of Trevor Bauer Restarting His Career After the Exile?

Even so, Bauer’s team saw the most recent development as a kind of green light to pursue a new MLB contract. Heyman reports that Bauer’s agents met with teams this week at the annual GM Meetings in Scottsdale, Arizona. Even after an arbitrator reduced Bauer’s 324-game suspension to 194, the 2020 NL Cy Young spent the previous season pitching in Japan. But his age is something that has to be considered.

Before the upcoming season, Bauer will turn 33. Over his career, he has a 3.79 ERA and a 1.243 WHIP. Jon Heyman reports that since Bauer last pitched in the majors, his average fastball velocity has actually increased by one mile per hour, peaking at 99.3. Given his inconsistent past, it is unclear which teams are interested in Bauer and what a contract might entail.
