The 2023 season has materialized to the liking of the Philadelphia Phillies. They are second in the NL East and looking like a great team. Though given the challenge and cruising Atlanta Braves, the Phillies can not lose their grip. Especially after playing well for most of the season. And when the team showed the opposite traits in a loss against the Marlins, fingers were against them. Shortstop Trea Turner, who is not having the best of the season, was the center of it after his mistake became one reason for the team’s loss.
Given that Turner is on a big contract, he knows what the team expects. And when he failed to perform accordingly, it disappointed him with himself. Accepting his mistake, Turner called out himself. The entire confession got all the attraction from the baseball world. But when it comes to the Phillies fans, they shared mixed voices on this.
Dejected Trea Turner Claimed the Reason for the Shocking Loss
It was the third game of the series between the Miami Marlins and the Philadelphia Phillies. Though the fans witnessed a great game, it was not what Turner wanted. The Shortstop, who joined the Phillies on an 11-year deal worth $300 million, failed to perform his duties. And as the team lost the game, Turner was dejected.
NBC Sports Philadelphia shared a video clip of Turner expressing his dejection. It read, “Obviously I’m the reason why we lost that game. A brutally honest Trea Turner after an all-around tough night.”

Notably, his comments came after he failed to field well in the 11th innings of the game. It opened a window for the Marlins, who scored another run in the 12th to win the game. If Turner handled the ball better, things could have been different.
Pointing towards the same, Turner blamed himself for the loss. Although with the bat, he had a decent game, with two runs to his name, loss overshadowed it. Phillies fans who are already not satisfied with the player, had their reactions to this loss.
Fans React in Mixed Voices as Turner’s Disappointment Continues
The Phillies fans were disappointed with the result. And shared their disliking for the player with advice for him. Though a few of them also backed Turner after his confession.
Here are a few of those reactions which captured mixed emotions of the fans.
Let him bat 9 until he figures himself out

Bench him and have him repay the Phillies for lousy performance!

Yup! Terrible. Hey @treavturner and #Phillies , how bout you tear up the contract, Trea walks away, and we call it even.

A few fans joined in with an unfamiliar thought process.
Unpopular opinion…. it wasn't all Trea's fault. Trea didn't blow a 5-0 lead. It's a team effort.

I feel bad for Trea.
This loss wasn’t on him.
We blew two big leads tonight.
He will get hot when we need him most for the playoffs!
