Former All-Star and three-times World Series winner Darryl Strawberry announced on the eve of his birthday that he was recovering from a heart attack. The baseball legend has turned 62 today. On hearing the news of his health scare, Alex Rodriguez and the rest of the sporting world came together to send good wishes to this New York legend. 

Strawberry informed his fans of this news through his Instagram account. In the post, he revealed undergoing a stent procedure at St. Joseph West in Lake St. Louis, Missouri. Strawberry was thankful to the medical staff, who promptly treated him and brought his heart to “total restoration.”

“Praising God for His amazing grace and loving mercy in saving my life this evening from a heart attack. I am so happy and honored to report that all is well,” Strawberry informed his fans through his social media post.

“So thankful for the medical team and staff at St. Joseph West in Lake St. Louis for responding so quickly and bringing me through a stent procedure that has brought my heart to total restoration!!! Your prayers are so absolutely appreciated as I continue to recover, in Jesus Name!” Straw’s Instagram post read.

Strawberry spent 17 years in the Major Leagues, most with the New York teams. The 8x All-Star hit 335 homers and was Rookie of the Year in 1983. However, his greatest achievement was the three World Series wins (2 with the Yankees and 1 with the Mets). So high was his impact that most ballplayers, including Alex Rodriguez, fell in love with baseball after watching him.

Alex Rodriguez sends wishes to his childhood idol 

A-Rod commented two heart emojis in solidarity with Strawberry. His former Yankees teammate Cecil Fielder also commented, “Ok my brotha. Hope you feel good,” he wasn’t alone. Social media was filled with wishes for this New York legend who had given countless memories to baseball lovers. An example of Strawberry’s importance came from Alex Rodriguez, who shared the list of his favorite players when he first fell in love with baseball.

In a list that had Dale Murphy, Keith Hernandez, and Cal Ripken, Rodriguez mentioned Darryl Strawberry as being part of that elite group. Straw’s part in the legendary Mets of the 80s isn’t hidden to anyone. He was perhaps one of the most popular faces in that star-studded team. So now that he’s had a major health scare, baseball fans have shown their immense love for “The Straw Man.”
