Baseball and video game fans, rejoice! The 2023 edition of MLB The Show is little more than a month away and fans are getting excited as the company shares snippets of news every day. From popular cover stars to special editions, this year’s game will be a treat for baseball enthusiasts. Even if one can’t actually play the sport in person, video games are a great way to have some fun.

With Jazz Chisolm Jr. selected to be on the cover and former Yankees star Derek Jeter appearing on the special edition, MLB The Show has a star-studded lineup. But the eighteenth edition of the franchise, which releases March 28th, isn’t done surprising fans just yet. Because former baseball icon Mike Lowell was just announced to be joining the virtual roster.

Lowell had a successful thirteen-year career in the major leagues, playing for teams like the Yankees, Marlins, and Red Sox. Named the MVP of the 2007 World Series as part of the Boston team, the third baseman is a true baseball gem. And now he’s adding another feather to his cap, as the official MLB The Show’s Twitter announced the news.

Fans have been waiting a very long time for Lowell to finally be added to the video game, and now the higher-ups have answered their wishes. And yet, some feel like there are other “legends” who should’ve made it. One person even pointed out that the game was biased toward the Yankees. Notably, Lowell only played for the Bronx Bombers for a single season. And yet the official picture shows him in what appear to be pinstripes.

Since Lowell didn’t make big splashes in his pro career, some Twitter users were actually confused as to who the third baseman is.
