The new year just started but somehow February is already here. There’s snow on the ground and a winter chill in the air. While some prefer cuddling in warm blankets with hot chocolate in their hands, some are taking advantage of the snow while braced for the cold. And as for building snowmen and snow sculptures? Sounds perfect! This is exactly what some artists did with MLB star Shohei Otani.

‘Shotime’ is a big deal in the U.S. but he’s even more of a phenomenon in his home country of Japan. Skilled on both sides of the ball, Otani oozes talent. Although still on the younger side, Ohtani has many loyal fans, some of which decided to build a snow sculpture in his honor. And people were beside themselves when they saw the giant ‘Snowhei Otani.’

The Sapporo Snow Festival for 2023 is just around the corner and, as usual, talented sculptors have created masterpieces out of the white powder. Since Ohtani has been a big name in baseball in recent years, he got his own sculpture. Currently a pitcher, outfielder, and designated hitter for the LA Angels, the 28-year-old has been causing waves since he joined professional baseball in 2012.

After playing with the Nippon Professional Baseball for five years Ohtani’s MLB career has been nothing but outstanding. And when the official Angels page tweeted out the news, fans were delighted to see his likeness cast in snow.

And believe it or not, this isn’t the first time Ohtani is getting such an honor!

Shotime usually leaves people impressed with his performance on the diamond, be it as a batter or a pitcher. In 2022, he became the first player in recent years to be qualified for both the hitting and pitching leaderboards in one season. So it comes as no surprise that people have been worshipping him for years. The Sapporo Snow Festival featured Ohtani in 2013 as well, marking the same year he debuted with the NPB.
