The New York Yankees can’t escape their ongoing issues. Recently, the Yanks faced off the St. Louis Cardinals in a doubleheader. After suffering a hefty 4-11 defeat in the first, they bounced back to win the second game. Amidst the final game, the Bronx Bombers had to improvise, bringing in a hitter to pitch. Josh Donaldson’s unconventional move resulted in a commendable performance but wasn’t enough to overcome the run deficit. Giving up the home-field advantage to the Cardinals, the Yanks lost but still found a reason to celebrate their small mound victory.

However, outrage ensued when fans saw the team celebrating in the dugout despite the terrible loss. They didn’t hold back from harshly criticizing what they perceived as misplaced delight.

In a desperate move to turn the tide, manager Aaron Boone called upon 3x All-Star Josh Donaldson to pitch in the eighth inning. Even though the third baseman hadn’t pitched since college, Boone was willing to take the gamble. To their relief, Donaldson’s inning didn’t end in disaster, but it didn’t secure a win for the team. He managed a 1-2-3 inning, retiring the hitters in the order they appeared.

Upon returning to the dugout, his teammates greeted Donaldson with applause and laughter, as if his performance had somehow clinched victory. Despite this brief moment of cheer, the Yanks lost the game by a substantial 7-run difference. Unsurprisingly, the fanbase found little humor in the situation, and they didn’t mince words in expressing their criticism of the team’s ill-timed celebration.
