After unanimously winning the National League Cy Young Award following a historic 2022 season, Miami Marlins ace, Sandy Alcantara wasn’t prepared for a spring filled with honors and surprises. And this stood true despite the Marlins bottling the 2022 season and ranking second to last in the National League East Division.

The 27-year-old righty pitcher, on a day, proclaimed “Sandy Alcantara Day” – 1oth January, found himself receiving a special gift from Miami city’s mayor, Francis Suarez after coming back home with the National League Cy Young Award in 2022 as a result of his 32 starts, with a 14-9 record at 2.28, covering almost 229 innings.

Joining Miami Marlins’ 1997 World Series MVP Liam Hernandez in a very special honor, the Mayor handed Sandy Alcantara a key to the city of Miami, on a day dubbed behind his name. The key symbolizes the person being welcomed into the city as an honorary citizen.

The two-time All-Star reached his Twitter with an upload thanking his friends and the city of Miami. He said, “What an honor for me to receive the Keys to the City of Miami. Thanks for the love and support. This is my home. Thank you Miami”
