The late owner of the New York Yankees, George Steinbrenner, while trying to instill a certain sense of order and discipline, introduced the “Neatness Counts” policy in the Bronx in 1972. The policy has remained intact since then, which says that no player, coach, or male executive can display any facial hair. Even though Steinbrenner’s long gone now, the policy continued at the request of his daughter.

It’s been five decades since the policy first got instated, and in recent years, the franchise has become a subject of mockery for keeping this policy intact. It caused quite a ruckus when players from other teams, like Gerrit Cole and Matt Carpenter, were traded to the Yanks and had to adhere to this policy. Now, a recent incident that has come to light about a ball boy of the Yankees has once again put the “no hair” policy of the team in a tough position. Hence, the organization is getting brutally berated for implying this policy on a ball boy.

This policy of the Yankees has been a subject of controversies multiple times in the past. But even then, the franchise continued to enforce this policy. Every player that has ever been on the team had to follow this rule, and apparently, now it applies to the ball boys as well.

‘YES Network’ recently posted a picture of the Yanks’ ball boy seated in the dugout, with his long hair on display. Beside that picture was another one of the same ball boys from a different night, showing no hair at all, making it seem like the boy had cut it off.

However, as soon as these two pictures went up on Twitter, baseball fans started criticizing the Yanks for this old policy still in place. But the Yanks have said that it is important for players to maintain a professional appearance both on and off the field. But, from the looks of it, the policy now extends to the ball boys as well.

What are the fans saying about the Yanks still keeping this policy intact?

Needless to say, baseball fans are angry, calling the team old school and whatnot. Also, they are saying that if the policy needs to be enforced, it should be applied to the players and not to the people who are there to help.
