Ronald Acu?a Jr. ran right into the history books yesterday. In an NL MVP-worthy campaign, the Atlanta Braves slugger has proved more than worthy of his hyped reputation. An essential part of his team’s 102 wins this season, Acu?a is proving to be impossibly excellent. And setting stellar records on the way.
Last month, the slugger became the first player to have 30 home runs and 60 stolen bases ever in a single season. As if that wasn’t enough, Acu?a hit 40 home runs last season. Passing the 40th mark is a significant feat in itself for any hitter, but what’s magnificent about the 25-year-old is his base stealing. Yesterday, he founded yet another unheard-of club in MLB. But it wasn’t too well received by the opposing team.

MLB games may be enjoyable for the average viewer but it’s certainly no fun to see an opposing team receive all the glory. The Chicago Cubs were in a tough spot yesterday, fighting for a Wild Card position. With a 6-5 loss, they are unlikely to gain an upper hand now. While this was already the expected outcome, their announcers were not happy.
As Ronald Acu?a Jr. stole another base in the 10th inning, he became the first MLB player in history to hit 40 home runs and steal 70 bases in a single season. It was history-making and everyone at the game realized it. Except, perhaps, the Chicago broadcasters.
As the game was stopped and the Braves slugger’s season highlights started playing on the screen, Jon Sciambi and Jim Deshaies thought it was too much. Acu?a was happily waving to the crowd at Truist Park when Sciambi asked, “We?re really stopping the game to do a highlight montage?? Deshaies chimed in, ?Can we get the base after the game? This is pretty absurd.”

Acu?a kept the second base as a memento from this memorable moment. But it was apparently not agreeable to everyone. Interestingly, fans had mixed reactions to the incident.
Even Non-Braves Fans Understood the Gravity of the Moment
While not everyone is a fan of the Bravos, baseball enthusiasts could not help but appreciate Acu?a at that moment. Even non-Braves fans applauded his skills.
“I mean I hate the Braves but this is an accomplishment that has NEVER been done. He deserves his moment”
“I hate the Braves, but come on man that?s history. as a baseball lover, you cannot be salty about that.”
Most supported Atlanta’s slugger for this milestone. “Everyone in the 40/70 club can have a say. Everyone else just sit back and enjoy the show.”

“Imagine witnessing history and this is what you decide to say”
Despite not liking the Chicago team, some stood up for the Cubs’ opinion. “The cubs are fighting for a playoff spot the shit can wait. That?s some Curb Your Enthusiasm shit. Yes, the montage can fucking wait and I don?t even want the cubs to make the playoffs but they are right”
“The first to ever do it?. Yeah stop the game lol”

Whichever moment one refers to, Acu?a celebrating with his hands up in the air or the broadcasters raining on his parade, the night will be unforgettable.
