If you’re a pitcher for the Kansas City Royals, the last two evenings haven’t been the easiest for you.
In the final game of the series against the Oakland Athletics, Kansas City Royals starting pitcher Ryan Yarbrough suffered a terrible injury. In the immediate next game against the Chicago White Sox, in the sixth innings, after taking over for Jose Cuas, pitcher Amir Garrett felt sick and ended up puking on the field after successfully striking out White Sox shortstop Elvis Andrus.
While the Kansas City Royals emerged victorious 12-5, pitcher Amir Garrett walked out of the park assisted by trainers after striking one batter out.

In the 2023 season, Amir Garrett has struggled, posting a 3.77 ERA in 15 games pitched for the Royals, and an incident like this isn’t going to help his cause.
The pitcher’s early departure from the mound received a variety of responses from MLB fans. While some made light of the situation, noting that it’s symbolically a frequent occurrence for Kansas City Royals players, others sympathized with the Chicago White Sox and expressed their disappointment with their performance this season, comparing it to a puke-worthy sentiment. Other references, like the New York Mets, Yankees, and Giants, were present too.

Amir Garrett made his MLB debut with the Cincinnati Reds in 2017, before he moved to Kansas City in 2022 in exchange for Mike Minor. In 2023, he signed a one-year deal with the Royals for $2.65 million and avoided arbitration. He is set to hit free agency in one-year.

Presently, the Kansas City Royals stand at the second last position in the entire league, with the Oakland Athletics at the bottom. The Royals have won 10 games and lost 26, stand at 0.278, and most recently lost a three-game home series against the Oakland Athletics.
Evidently, the Royals have lots of regrouping to do if they want to stand any chance in the 2023 season. And even though it’s still early days, the writing is already on the wall.
