Five years younger than five-time World Champion shortstop Derek Jeter, Sharlee Jeter was always very close to her brother. But both their lives panned out in very different ways. While Derek fought on the field to bring five World Series trophies to New York, Sharlee, since the young age of 20, fought for her life against Hodgkin’s lymphoma, and even her brother’s opulent Pinstripe contracts couldn’t physically or emotionally fight the battle for her.

After recovering from her life-threatening disease, Sharlee Jeter shifted her entire focus to the Derek Jeter-founded Turn 2 Foundation. Their mission statement is to help children turn away from alcohol and drugs, and provide them with opportunities to turn their lives.

Recently, in an interview with Comfort Cases through the Fostering Change Podcast, Sharlee Jeter, who also serves as vice president of strategy & development for Jeter Ventures, which encompasses Derek’s full portfolio of business operations, spoke about her one big wish for the Turn 2 Foundation.

Sharlee Jeter continued to add, “They want to go to a company, do a good job, and make them proud. And the only thing that a lot of these kids are missing is opportunity. So, my wish is that people will look at this, and look within, and say you know what, just by doing the bare minimum, we can actually help these kids who really want to do a good job.”

Finally, she concludes by summing up the motives of these kids, who only want to make everyone proud. She says, “None of these kids want to be in trouble in their future.
