Shortly after being fired by Jordan Montgomery, Scott Boras gave his statement on the agency mishap fiasco. Stating that the final call is of the players themselves, he noted, “They make all decisions.” Recently, Boras has been facing a lot of trouble with the World Series winner. Jordan Montgomery, in particular, has blamed his former agent for the mishandling of his free agency, which he believes caused him to miss out on a great deal with the Red Sox.
Moreover, Jordan isn’t the only one feeling the pinch from this agency mishap. Scott Boras’ other clients—left-hander Blake Snell, outfielder Cody Bellinger, and third baseman Matt Chapman—were all expected to land big contracts this off-season but ended up settling for short-term deals. And when Montgomery voiced his frustration, saying Boras “butchered” his deal, you’d think Boras might own up to it. Well. no; he stuck to his line about players making their own decisions- and much more.
Scott Boras opens up about the agency mishap
The freelance agent began: “I saw what Jordan said. I know what it is to be frustrated with this game. As a former player, I feel for him.” How can one not? Jordan missed a very big opportunity to sign a longer deal with the Red Sox. Plus, he lost millions of cash in. After this, Scott went on to highlight the fact that he now has a new role and new responsibilities. “ I’m also a lawyer with obligations to my clients, including former ones. So I cannot discuss what happened or the decisions Jordan made unless he permits me.”
Well, one can understand that he has his lawyer obligations to follow and wants to protect his client’s privacy. But he did place the player’s call as the ultimate line, stating, “I relay all offers and relevant information to all my clients and act at their direction. They make all the decisions. We wish Jordan well.” Scott Boras also emphasized that if Jordan gives him a green signal, he will be sharing more on the matter.
For the time being, Jordan has taken the step that he wanted by firing Scott Boras and switching to Wasserman. Do you know that Wasserman is actually a rival agency to Scott’s? Even though he is no longer the agent for the left-hander, Boras is still one of the agents supreme of baseball. And with many of his clients entering free agency after this season, this could be a chance for Boras to turn things around for himself.
What are Scott Boras’ plans for the 2025 season?
Although the Boras Four tremendously failed in the winter season, with each of its clients missing more than $100 million, he was quick to respond that he knew their players wouldn’t get what they desired. While he had a very unsuccessful 2023-2024 season, Scott Boras has already been positive about the ‘Boras five season’ for 2024-2025. And why wouldn’t he? These are the brightest of talents that the league has to offer currently.
The ‘Boras Five’ includes Juan Soto, the 25-year-old Dominican Megastar and most promising rising star. Debuting in MLB at the age of 19, he has helped his team win the World Series, just a year later! Will he be able to help Boras restore his credibility? Well, it seems possible. Then there’s the New York Mets’ hero Pete Alonso, alongside Max Scherzer, Alex Bregman, and Corbin Burnes. Seixing wonders in the field for years now, these talents are also set to enter freelance agencies.
And despite all the ongoing drama, having Boras as your agent still has its perks. His agency, Boras Corporation, represents some of the biggest names in baseball, and soon there will be more. So, while there have been issues, Boras still has a lot of star power on his roster. How the Boras Five will turn out to be is still yet to be seen; will Boras be able to reverse the damage of this season? Also, what deals do you think will come for the ‘Boras Five’?
