As per popular knowledge, the ghosts of their sign-stealing scandal still haunt the Astros from 2017. However, the Astros have traveled far beyond their infamous image since then. This year, in particular, the Dusty Baker-led team has proved why they are a champion team.
So putting the icing on their cake, the Astros have received the largest postseason bonus in MLB history. Thus, they have now surpassed the previous highest amount they themselves had set back in 2017. Consequently, MLB fans have joined in a debate over the matter.
How did the fans react to the Houston Astros bonus report?
The Houston Astros’ postseason bonus shares for each player this year are worth $516,347 million. The humongous amount got generated out of a record players’ pool worth $107.5 million. There was a 19 percent increase from last year’s pool, courtesy of the new wildcard series system. Thus, the Astros issued $940,000 in cash awards, including 59 full shares and 14.14 partial shares.
Fox Sports network posted the news on their official Twitter account, quoting, “The celebration isn’t stopping in Houston, the Astros got paid.”

One fan replied, by stating, “This is a big deal for many of our players because our roster is made up of prospects and guys still on rookie deals and very low contracts.”
This is a big deal for many of our players because our roster is made up of prospects and guys still on rookie deals and very low contracts (valdez, javier, McCormick, brown, Urquidy, garcia, etc).

Yet another fan wrote, “Now go look up what the team did with that $37M. They voted to shower most of it on coaches, staff, other employees… They gave, in some cases, life changing money to front office employees, bat boys, minor league staff, etc. Run and tell that.”
Now go look up what the team did with that $37M. They voted to shower most of it on coaches, staff, other employees. They kept almost none. They gave, in some cases, life changing money to front office employees, bat boys, minor league staff, etc. Run and tell THAT.

One more fan wrote, “Astros will go down in history as cheaters and it’s sad because they’re good. Respect this year and their game but they are a trash org and trash people. MLB was too weak to punish them properly. Weak. That’s why ppl mad.”

In 2019, the Houston Astros were found to be using an electronic sign stealing system during the 2017 regular season home games. The only punishment they got is basically their manager getting fired, and NOW there getting the largest playoff bonus in MLB HISTORY!?
