The Los Angeles Angels have long boasted the combined star power of Shohei Ohtani and Mike Trout. But while the Japanese sensation may be out of his way from LA on a one-way ticket, Trout’s future is still uncertain. The 11x All-Star has been loyal to the team ever since he first signed with them in 2011, but is finally ready to part ways with LA?

Trout has been struggling with injuries these last few seasons and is currently out on the IL with a left hamate fracture. In the midst of what fans blame to be a lack of urgency to return, the slugger has been focusing on golf pursuits, making many think he has no intentions of returning to baseball. But is it simply that Trout doesn’t want to make a comeback with the Halos?

Much like Ohtani, who has yet to sit down with the management to decide his future, Trout has had no talks with them. Despite promises of a playoff appearance in 2023, the team is most likely going to end the season with a loss for the eighth year in a row. Trout, and for that matter Ohtani, deserves better. Having stayed stubbornly loyal to the team has done him no favors, and it might be time for a change.

“When it’s brought up in the offseason, you’ve obviously got to talk about it, and think about it,” he told the Orange County Register. “I haven’t thought about it yet. There are going to be some conversations in the winter, for sure. Just to see the direction of everything and what the plan is.”

The Angels interestingly made no major moves at the trade deadline this season, when most were expecting to say goodbye to Sho-time. But when Trout was asked about it, he simply said, “I’m not even going to comment on that.” While Angels fans would be loathe to see him go, the league’s highest-paid player might finally get a whiff of the Fall Classic with a team that deserves him.

For once, he might leave willingly, if his comments are anything to go by. Interestingly, Max Scherzer said something similar earlier this season.

Max Scherzer Went in the Same Direction Before He Was Traded

The New York Mets have been in a steady decline in 2023 and Max Scherzer, way past his prime, was not having any of it. He decided to have a talk with the front office but their interests clearly didn’t align. A few days later, the Texas Rangers announced that they had acquired the ace in a trade with the Mets.
