As most baseball fans are aware, Jeter preferred to avoid the limelight even when he could have used it for more name and fame. But the Yankees legend knew his limits. Having played for one of the biggest sports franchises in the world and lived in a happening city like New York, it was difficult for Jeter to find a place to spend his leisure time.

Back in the late 90s, Derek Jeter had a hard time picking any spot in the city to enjoy himself

Per an exclusive interview with Michael Silver of Sports Illustrated in 1999, the then-New York Yankees shortstop detailed why he would find it difficult to choose any place to spend his leisure time. In the SI interview, Derek Jeter admitted New York was too happening for him.

In Jeter’s own words, women were the most beautiful in the world. And whenever he went out, he would lose track of time on most occasions.

“Look, I’m like every other 24-year-old,” Derek Jeter said. “This city is a melting pot, and the women here are the most beautiful in the world. Every night here is a Friday night—the places you go are going to be packed.”a

“During the season it’s difficult to get into a pattern of going out, because the places are great, you lose track of time… Baseball’s a game in which it’s real easy to tell if you’ve been out late the previous night, so I have to pick my spots. But during the off-season, when I’m here, it’s a totally different story.”

Will the Yankees ever find someone as good as Jeter?
