The Sole Wedding Detail Alex Rodriguez Knew Before Saying ‘I Do’ to Jennifer Lopez: “It’s Going to Be a Long Flight”

No matter how well prepared one is, sometimes life is determined to throw a wrench in one’s plans. Everything is upended on its axis, taking a completely different direction than what one expected. That is how Alex Rodriguez and Jennifer Lopez must have felt in 2021. After four years of being together, and spending almost two of them engaged to each other, the two decided to split up. Before that, wedding planning had been in full swing.

Rodriguez had popped the question in March 2019, and Lopez, like many brides, was apparently a bit of a bridezilla. Had the wedding happened, it would have been her fourth go at it, while the second for A-Rod. And while the pop star did go on to have her fourth wedding eventually, she prepared meticulously for when it was happening with Rodriguez. Interestingly, the former Yankee only knew a few details of the actual ceremony.

Alex Rodriguez Only Knew Where He Would Say ‘I Do’

Most grooms prefer to stay out of their bride-to-be’s way. Whether it’s disinterest in planning or an interest in making it alive to the actual wedding day is anyone’s guess. Alex Rodriguez, it would seem, was much the same. Except for where he was supposed to show up, he didn’t know a lot of details.

Talking on ‘Strahan, Sara, and Keke’ in September 2019, he was reluctant to give up too much info. It may simply have been because he didn’t know much, rather than any secretive manipulation. But he did say one interesting thing – “One wedding clue: It’s going to be a long flight.” When host Keke Palmer guessed Dubai, Rodriguez denied it. Some later guessed that the location could have been Italy, where Lopez honeymooned with Ben Affleck, but now fans will never know.

What they do know is, that Rodriguez and Lopez were just like any couple before their personal issues drove them apart. “When you think about wedding plans and Jennifer is your partner, all you do is – you do a lot of nodding,” the retired ballplayer added. “I don’t know where the location is, I don’t know what I’m wearing, I don’t know when it is. I’ll just show up.”

As for who would have been in attendance, A-Rod had an interesting answer.

Rodriguez Was Open to Exes at the Wedding

While the couple’s special day never arrived, A-Rod had an interesting choice for guests in attendance. One usually prefers friends and family, but for the former baseballer, any exes that wanted to attend were welcome too! “I would say exes invited to the wedding,” he said in the same interview. “All inclusive. The more the merrier.”

While not entirely unheard of, it’s certainly not a common practice. What a shame fans never got to see what would have been an extremely interesting wedding. Well, maybe Alex Rodriguez will do the same if he ever ties the knot with Jac Cordeiro.
