Joe Torre is a baseball legend, equally successful both as a player and manager. He played with and later managed multiple teams. His most successful management stint came with the New York Yankees. Torre guided the Yankees to four World Series victories. As a player, he was a nine-time All-Star member.?

Most fans and even players of the two teams consider each other as foes rather than opponents. So Torre had his own feelings to share regarding the two feuding teams.?

Former Yankees manager,?Joe Torre, felt the after-effects of his team’s rivalry with the Red Sox. Sporting rivalries, such as the one between the Red Sox and the Yankees, turn the sport into a battle. The two teams play like cut-throat enemies and their games assert a heavier pressure to win. The losing team faces stronger criticism from fans and critics alike.?

The Red Sox vs Yankees rivalry is not as old as a few other rivalries in baseball. But it’s still ongoing for many decades and is the most popular. Torre was the Yankees’ manager for 11 years. He witnessed it all and felt the rivalry took a big toll upon him.?

So speaking in an interview, Torre said, “I love the city (of Boston). I love the people. I always kid Sox fans: ‘When you go through the turnstile, what happens to you?’ The rivalry wears you out.”?

Torre added saying, “Every single game becomes crazy. (Red Sox manager) Terry Francona and I would talk to each other after each series and we’d say, ‘Boy, am I glad that’s over?for five or six weeks.'”?

A historical fact in relation to the intense rivalry?

The Red Sox vs Yankees rivalry is associated with a superstition called, ‘The Curse of the Bambino’. Back in 1919, Red Sox manager, Harry Frazee, sold the superstar,?Babe Ruth, to the Yankees. Following on, the Red Sox failed to win a World Series championship for 86 years. However, in the meantime, the rivalry began to catch fire.?
