Aaron Judge is in a league of his own. The New York Yankees slugger has been having his career-best season this year. With 55 home runs already hit, Judge is on a pace to hit 64 home runs and surpass the iconic, Roger Maris’ single-season home runs record (61).

Despite the fact that the Yankees have not been the same in the second half of the ongoing MLB season, it has not affected Judge’s performance. Rather, he is playing even better in such crunch situations.

It is no secret that the controversial MLB legend, Barry Bonds, holds the record of smashing the most home runs (73) in a single season. But since he reportedly used PEDs, baseball pundits and fans do not consider his record real. And this is where Aaron Judge disagrees. He is among a very few people who still idolize Bonds.

Aaron Judge is after Barry Bonds’ or Roger Maris’ home run record

Per the New York Post, Aaron Judge is neither after Barry Bonds’ home run record nor after Roger Maris’ home run record. Instead, the Yankees star wants to play his game and help the team win as many games as possible.

However, the MVP frontrunner agreed that Barry Bonds’ home run record is still relevant for him. And it will never change for the Judge. Because Bonds is someone Judge idolized in his younger days.

“The record’s the record,” Judge said. “That’s what I go by. I watched him as a kid flip the ball into the bay with ease. That hasn’t changed. No one can take that from him… I’m not really chasing or looking at anything. It’s just happening.”

On the other hand, the Yankees legend Roger Maris’ son, Roger Maris Jr. has a different opinion. He still believes his father’s record is the real one. However, Roger Maris Jr. appreciated Aaron Judge for his wonderful season.

“I think a lot of people still look at Dad’s as the real record,” Maris Jr. said. “So that was surprising to me… Maybe he is going after Bonds, with the way he’s killing it lately.”
