One of the places that got affected primarily by the 9/11 terror attack was New York City. This year marked the 21st anniversary of the tragedy that took almost three thousand lives.
Like many others, the former baseball player Alex Rodriguez took to his social media to pay the tribute in a way he felt right. He remembered one of the most painful days in the history of mankind while also being grateful to the first responders.

To this day, 9/11 remains the date for people to remember what a painful day it was, not only for the people who saw it first hand but also for the ones who lost their families. Regardless, the words that A-Rod used in his post angered the New Yorkers enough to call him out.
How did Alex Rodriguez anger the New Yorkers with his words?
In the post, Alex called himself a New York native as he was born in the city. But since his family then moved to Miami, Florida, he grew up there. And therefore, when A-Rod called himself a New York native, rage rose among the people on Twitter.
As a native New Yorker, it was unimaginable to watch those tragic events unfold. I remain forever grateful for the bravery of our first responders on that day & every day, and proud of the way NY, and our entire nation, united. The pain hasn’t gone away & never will. #NeverForget

The caption of Alex’s post read, “As a native New Yorker, it was unimaginable for me to watch those tragic events unfold in my home city. I remain forever grateful for the bravery of our first responders on that day and every day and proud of the way New York and our entire nation united together. The pain hasn’t gone away and never will.”

Having been born in Washington Heights in New York City, A-Rod considers himself a native, but other people do not.
The emotions behind the post were left unseen, and people chose to focus on one word which apparently affected them as much as it did.
What did the fans say about Alex?
Thousands of people lost their lives twenty-one years ago. The pain is still fresh and just like Alex said, is not going to go away. The day is a reminder of what people lost in the deadliest terror attack all those years ago.
But weren’t you raised in Miami from a very young age?
