Two-way phenom Shohei Ohtani continues to create a buzz in the MLB world. Despite facing minor challenges in his last game, he still commands awe from the baseball world for his unparalleled performances. Prior to his recent struggle against the Padres, Ohtani confidently responded to San Diego’s Juan Soto. The 24-year-old outfielder wasn’t the only one acknowledging the heroics of ‘Shotime.’ Also included among the admirers was Padres’ former shortstop, Fernando Tatis Jr., whose reputation had been tainted by a steroids scandal.

Since returning from his suspension, Tatis Jr. has excelled at the plate, boasting 16 home runs. As the saying goes, ‘talent recognizes talent,’ and so, the revitalized ‘El Nino’ acknowledged Ohtani’s skills before the series against the Angels commenced.

After losing the initial game against the Padres, Shohei Ohtani decided to flex his pitching skills in Tuesday night’s game. Living up to expectations, he delivered an impressive performance, notching five strikeouts over five innings. Although he eventually left the game, Ohtani had made quite an impression. Prior to Monday’s match, Padres’ Fernando Tatis Jr. had lauded him as “the GOAT.”

Before the series opener, Tatis Jr. had an interaction with the media where he commended Ohtani’s skills and this season’s performance. The praises from Junior Fernando only highlighted the buzz around the Angels’ star. He said, “The GOAT. (laughter), this guy is incredible. What he is doing for baseball is going to be mentioned for the next 100 years, 200 years, but facing him is one of the biggest challenges, and I’m looking forward to it.”

Given Ohtani’s current form, he is once again in contention for the AL MVP. His victory in the World Baseball Classic before the season, combined with his impending free agency, has further amplified his fame. However, at this stage of the season, all eyes are on his health. Ohtani’s fans eagerly wish for his speedy recovery and hope his injury doesn’t sideline him for more games.

What happened to the Angels’ two-way phenom?

Shohei was pulled out of the second game in the series against the Padres after conceding back-to-back home runs to their shortstop, Xander Bogaerts, in the bottom of the sixth inning. This occurred alongside a blister developing on his throwing hand, an issue compounded by a pre-existing cracked fingernail. These challenges marked the first time in his career that he had allowed consecutive home runs. Consequently, the likelihood of him starting the all-star game was completely extinguished.

This turn of events was a significant setback for the Angels. It was especially on the heels of losing Mike Trout to the injured list just a few days prior. Already grappling with maintaining the third position in their division, Ohtani’s absence from the roster delivers yet another blow to the team.
