The Boston Red Sox are in the middle of a dramatic restructuring. Having lost postseason chances once again, the team believes changes are in order. While the BoSox’s last World Series championship was in 2018, the club has been in a decline since then. They blame it on Chaim Bloom, former Chief Baseball Officer for the Red Sox.

In a shocking move, the Boston team let go of the sports executive on Thursday. Bloom had spent four years with the team but unfortunately, three of them had ended with the Red Sox finishing dead last in their division. Even if Bloom may have done some good, his work failed to reflect this season and the management had had enough. But an MLB insider believes there was more than one person to blame.

Jeff Passan Staunchly Defends Chaim Bloom

ESPN’s Jeff Passan first broke the surprising news yesterday which many admittedly did not see coming. Apparently, the ongoing match-up between Boston and their archrivals, the New York Yankees had caused some tension. The Bronx won two of those games in a huge upset to Boston, and it was the last straw.

Almost an hour later, Passan posted a personal opinion on X, formerly Twitter. While Bloom’s work in the majors may be lacking, the ESPN writer puts the blame elsewhere. “Over the 15-year stretch during which they won four World Series, here were the Boston Red Sox’s payroll ranks in those years: 2nd, 2nd, 3rd, 1st. Over the last four years, they have been under the CBT three times and their payroll this year is 11th”, he writes.

Passan then concludes passive-aggressively, “But it was the GM’s fault.” Interestingly, the baseball columnist is known for his radical takes on the goings on in the league, but most appreciate his fresh approach. In Bloom’s case, no one can deny the work he put in to improve Boston’s farm system. Their Minor Leagues were considered one of the worst in MLB when he joined.

Principal owner John Henry admitted as much. ?While parting ways is not taken lightly, today signals a new direction for our club,? he said in a press release. ?Our organization has significant expectations on the field and while Chaim?s efforts in revitalizing our baseball infrastructure have helped set the stage for the future, we will today begin a search for new leadership.

Boston Red Sox Fans Are on the Fence About Their Feelings

While this firing may have stunned many, some fans believe it was long needed and came too late. Some couldn’t help but speak out about Henry, who they believe should give up ownership of the team.

Another one was incensed over the Mookie Betts trade.

One fan rooted for Jeff Passan.

On the other hand, one couldn’t help but criticize the ESPN writer.
