After making his MLB debut with the San Francisco Giants in 2008, 15 years later, Sergio Romo has finally bid farewell to the sport. After representing eight Major League teams and turning 40, Romo decided that his fitting goodbye would be with the team he helped win three World Champions – the Giants.
However, the 2013 All-Star wasn’t prepared to fight for a place on the roster and decided that the curtains on his career should close during spring training. As a result, Romo went ahead and signed a minor league contract with the Bay Area’s Giants with a planned retirement after pitching one final time against the Athletics on March 27 during the Bay Bridge exhibition game.

After pitching one inning, Romo got the curtain call. And after absorbing the moment, bid an emotional goodbye to the Giants and baseball after winning three World Championships in 2010, 2012, and 2014.
While talking to the Players Tribune before his final appearance against the Athletics, the slider specialist said, “Dear San Francisco, Tonight I get to do something one last time — something that’s been one of the biggest honors of my whole life: I get to put on a Giants jersey.”
Romo continued to add, “And before I go do that, I just wanted to write this letter and share some thoughts with you all. Thanks for reading.”
