Home/MLB

Minute Maid Park has seen a lot of action over the years aside from baseball. Home to the Houston Astros, The Juice Box is a regular witness to some great plays by the AL West team, but sometimes, baseball is not the only action that happens there. Occasionally, passionate fans ignore the rules of general decorum and disrupt the game with their antics. This is what happened at a recent Astros vs Rangers game after the Houston team loosened their regulations regarding alcohol.

Each team was up against its longtime rival. Both Astros and Rangers play in the AL West division, so it was a heated game, to say the least. And since MLB’s rule changes have shortened the games, the Astros no longer cut alcohol sales after the 7th inning. The unruly fan in the ninth inning was a point of entertainment for the crowd before the Astros lost spectacularly.

For the fashion averse, jorts are a basic combination of two items – jeans plus shorts. Denim shorts aren’t really uncommon to see, but what’s special about jorts is that they’re a bit longer than regular shorts.

The fan, who wore an unbuttoned Astros jersey with an orange t-shirt emblazoned with a skeleton’s hand throwing up the H, came from left field. He covered quite some ground before security guards caught up with him. His beer went flying when he realized who surrounded him, and then fell to the ground in his sandals and flame-patterned socks.

As he slid down dramatically, a security guard tripped over him, unable to control his momentum at the last moment. He got over it fast, however, and grabbed him by the shirt. Other Minute Maid security officials then joined them and the jorts-wearing fan was led off the field without struggle. He probably never got that beer back.

Another fan once hugged Jose Altuve in the middle of a game

Back in October 2022, a fan ran up to Jose Altuve, the star second baseman for the Astros. While it seemed like Altuve tried to reason with him, the person just wouldn’t let him go, hugging Altuve down on his knees. In a few more moments, guards caught up with them and forcefully dragged the person away. It ultimately took seven guards to properly restrain him, then take him away in handcuffs.

In addition to giving Altuve a hug, the fan also tried to take a selfie with his beloved player, but then security arrived on the scene. This incident happened at Minute Maid Park as well! This time, the Astros were up against the Yankees. That hug proved a good luck charm because the Astros won last time, but yesterday, it was the Rangers’ win.
