Born in New Jersey, Derek Jeter eventually moved to Kalamazoo, Michigan with his family. He started playing professional college baseball there, until 1992, when he entered his name into the MLB draft.

Captain Clutch grew up as a die-hard New York Yankees fan. However, in 1992, the Yanks were selecting sixth and Jeter could’ve ended up anywhere. To his good luck, it was his dream team, the Pinstripes, who signed him for $800,000.
Analogous to that, back in 2016, former Indianapolis Colts quarterback, Peyton Manning, wrote a letter to the former Yankee captain Derek Jeter along with Tom Brady. In the letter, Peyton praised the Yankee shortstop’s magnificent MLB career, along with making a shocking revelation about his favorite New Yorker.
What did Peyton Manning say about Captain Derek Jeter?
In a video from 2016, five-time World Champion Derek Jeter read out the letter Peyton Manning wrote to him. He started off by saying, “Dear DJ, congrats on your outstanding career. You’ll forever have my respect. If you’re ever in my neck of the woods, I’d love to sit down for dinner. I have a Groupon for Red Lobster where $40 gets you $80 worth the scampi. Let me know as these things expire.”
To Peyton’s final comment about the Groupon coupon, Jeter responded by saying, “He’s always been cheap.”
Finally, Peyton Manning concluded the letter by revealing Derek Jeter as his favorite New Yorker. At the same time, the quarterback skipped his brother, Eli Manning, who is also from New York.
Jeter narrated, “PS – Just wanted to let you know you were my favorite New York athlete. Don’t tell Eli. or tell him. I don’t care. Scr*w it.”

Back in August, when the Yanks faced their worst possible slump in the past decade, their fans demanded a change in the front office. Similarly, after another World Series miss, the fans have returned to their original demand.
And this time, many New Yorkers want to see their former players replace Aaron Boone and Brian Cashman, especially Derek Jeter since he recently left his managerial role at the top of the Miami Marlins. However, rumors suggest that the Yankee ownership is not letting anyone go.
