Is Shohei Ohtani the best investment the Dodgers have ever made, or is the pressure too much?

700 million—that’s the amount that Los Angeles Dodgers signed Shohei Ohtani with. At the time, it became a huge topic of contention—spending this much for a single player? But well, it seems like the Dodgers have to thank their stars, or rather Shohei Ohtani – the Japanese star didn’t take long to prove his worth to the team or the world. Even with an injured wrist and being unable to pitch, he made all the noise with his bat.

Ohtani reached the exclusive 40-40 club faster than anyone on the list. And to top it all off, he reached the exclusive 50-50 club in a style that makes his victory even more iconic. Plus, the Dodgers reached the postseason without much hiccup. So, at this moment, most are skeptical because how can everything be this good with Ohtani? Well, an ah-ha moment came when his tempo took a low pitch with the San Diego Padres. But lucky for the Dodgers, his slump lasted just a few games. Still, even a brief dip sparked a lot of buzz, highlighting just how much pressure is on him. And Max Muncy talked about the pressures Shohei Ohtani has to face each game.

The Los Angeles Dodgers don’t quite have a colorful postseason resume from the past few years. They always ended up getting sidetracked during the most crucial times. So when they faced the San Diego Padres and lost two games, it didn’t take long for others to dismiss them. Shohei Ohtani too did show some signs of a slowdown, leading to more buzz. Most fans expect plenty from the Japanese star. Did you know that in Japan the craze is so huge for Ohtani that people are replacing the Yankee caps with blue Dodger caps?

There was even news that if the Dodgers reached the World Series, there would be provisions for public viewing of the game. While these are lovely, they do add pressure, and Max Muncy highlighted that Ohtani faces them every time.Alex Rodriguez asked Max Muncy how it was feeling now that Ohtani seemed to have caught the pace back. To which Max Muncy, defending Ohtani, said that people expect too much from the Japanese star.He keeps getting put in situations where people expect something unbelievable,” said Max Muncy, as he added the truth: “Somehow, he never disappoints.”

According to Muncy, it’s hard to find someone like Ohtani who rises to every challenge he is thrown at. It is truly remarkable because this is Shohei Ohtani’s first stint in the post-season. During his time with the Angeles, he didn’t get this far. And even after an eventful regular season, he is showing no signs of slowing down, except for losing a certain streak!

Have an interesting take?

Shohei Ohtani and the Los Angeles Dodgers had a topsy-turvy series with the San Diego Padres. In fact, to some, at one point it looked like the Dodgers were possibly looking towards an elimination. But they turned the tables and won the series. And they kicked off their NCLS series against the New York Mets. And well, they won the first out of the seven games with a nail-biting 3-2 victory over the Mets. But while Ohtani did great, he did end up losing one of his stellar streaks.

So Shohei Ohtani clenched a solid RBI single off Kodia Senga very early in the game with the New York Mets. But even the stars stumble, and hence Ohtani’s streak of 36 consecutive stolen bases came to an end. It was unexpected, but Mets catcher Francisco Alvarez threw him out, trying to steal the second. It was only the first time that Ohtani had been caught stealing in three months; the last was back in July when he played against the Giants.

But Ohtani, as Max Muncy pointed out, ‘never disappoints’ and so in the fourth inning, he added in another single, driving another run. This pushed the Dodgers lead to a 6-0, so they had plenty of cushions for the players to come in and take some risks. The Dodgers did end up winning, too. Now, Game 2 is approaching with the Mets, and Francisco Lindor has mentioned they are ready to recoup and come back strong.
