As the St. Louis Cardinals took on the Los Angeles Dodgers at Dodger Stadium, Albert Pujols rose from 698 to 700 by smashing two homers as the league toppers faced an embarrassing 11-0 loss against the Cardinals. Notably, Pujols decided to return to the Cardinals to play his last MLB season.

Before entering 2022, no one expected Pujols’ final push to carry him over the 700 home run mark. However, he has now entered the 700-club led by Barry Bonds at 762, Hank Aaron at 755, and Babe Ruth at 714. As Pujols smashed two homers against the Dodgers, big names from across MLB congratulated him through their social media handles.

How did A-Rod and Barry Bonds react to Pujols striking his 700th homer?

Despite a dominating victory over the Dodgers, the highlight of yesterday’s game was Pujols’ two homers that drove him to 700. Consequently, legends Alex ‘A-Rod’ Rodriguez and Barry Bonds reached their social media handles, applauding Albert “The Machine” Pujols’ great achievement.

A-Rod, while replying to an MLB tweet, said, “Congrats to my brother @PujolsFive on joining the 700 Home Run Club! Just the fourth man ever to do it. So well deserved.” Strikingly, A-Rod concluded his MLB career with 696 homers in 2016. Throughout his career, A-Rod won three American League MVP awards, and one World Championship, and appeared on 14 All-Star teams.

On the other hand, Barry Bonds, who leads the list of all-time homers at 766, reposted a story of Pujols’ 700th homer and said, “Congratulations and well deserved my friend.” The former slugger won seven National League MVP awards and appeared on 14 All-Star teams along with the Giants, who later, retired his jersey and inducted him into their Hall of Fame.

Albert Pujols and his 22-year MLB career

Pujols made his MLB debut with the St. Louis Cardinals in 2001. After devoting the first ten years of his MLB career to the Cardinals, he spent the next ten with the LA Angels from 2012 to 2021. In the 2021 offseason, Pujols signed a one-year contract with the Dodgers.

Finally, after announcing 2022 as his final MLB season, he came back to the Cardinals, completing a full circle in his MLB career. After a 22-year-long MLB career, the 42-year-old approaches retirement with a batting average of 0.296 and 700 homers(and counting).
