If one has been even vaguely aware of the happenings in pop culture in the last two decades, one probably knows the Fast and Furious franchise. The Fast Saga has been one of the longest-running series Hollywood has seen over the years. It joins the likes of movie giants James Bond, Star Wars, Godzilla, etc. in its longevity. The movies have introduced some iconic characters to cinema buffs that are not easily forgotten. And as it so happens, one of them recently paid a visit to Petco Park to meet a San Diego Padres player.
The Friars have not been having the best season so far in 2023. With the return of Fernando Tatis Jr from his suspension, fans were hoping things would look up. And it seems like among those fans is Fast and Furious‘s Han Lue.

Among the Fast Saga’s most well-known characters are undoubtedly Vin Diesel’s Dominic Toretto and Paul Walker’s Brian O’Connor. But another fan-favorite is Sung Kang’s Han Lue, or Han Seoul-Oh (a play on Han Solo from Star Wars). Movie-goers have been eagerly awaiting the upcoming Fast X to see the interaction between Han and Jason Statham’s Deckard Shaw.

But before they can watch the tenth installment in the franchise, two of the biggest personalities of South Korean descent in America had an iconic meeting at Petco Park recently. Ahead of the Padres game against the Los Angeles Dodgers, Sung Kang met with Ha-Seong Kim.
Kim has been a vital presence in the Friars’ lineup, stepping up to give a solid performance when Tatis was missing in action. Filling in as shortstop, the South Korean player finished the 2022 season with a .251 batting average, 59 RBI, and 11 home runs. No wonder the Fast X actor is a fan!
The Padres and Dodgers may head to South Korea next
As part of the MLB World Tour, many teams have been playing on the international stage. For the beginning of the next season, the NL West rivals could head to Seoul, The San Diego Union-Tribune reports. The franchises might play a two-game series in late March 2024, giving up a home game each.

Kim, naturally, is excited to see how it goes. “It’s going to be an honor for our team to go to my country and play a game there,” he said. “It’s gonna be so fun, and I’m looking forward to it.”
