Being a Major League Baseball player comes with a lot of responsibilities. A player has to give his 100 percent on the field while fulfilling the expectations of his fans and the team he’s playing for. And sometimes handling these responsibilities can be challenging. Hence, playful and healthy mockery now and then helps lighten the mood and adds humor to it. Almost every team partakes in it, and so do the American League’s New York Yankees. An example of it would be the Yankees’ manager Aaron Boone calling the outfielder Giancarlo Stanton “weirdo.”

Recently, in an interview, among other things, Boone talked about the reason why he calls Stanton a weirdo. Additionally, Boone also spoke about his thoughts on Stanton’s walk-up song.

Sometimes, while playing, pressure can be too much. Hence, the players blow off some steam to relieve the stress on them. But when the time comes to support their teammates, they’d be the first to cheer them up. It goes both ways. Therefore, to keep things light, Boone calls Stanton a weirdo when he hits a weird homer.

While about calling Stanton what he does, Boone said, “I usually tell it to his face when he comes in after one of the weird homers or something, I’ll just be like, “you weirdo” I think he gets a kick out of it.” Additionally, about his walk-up song, Boone said that he probably should change it because “I don’t love big G’s walk-up song.”

If both parties enjoy this playful banter, there’s nothing wrong with it, helping to keep the pressure to the bare minimum. Fans understand this and, hence, are enjoying this moment. Last year, Boone had been the subject of harsh criticism because of the team’s subpar play, but watching this side of him has fans lighten up on him.

New York Yankees fans are enjoying Boone-weirdo conversation!

Everybody is entitled to their own opinion. And thus, not everybody agrees with Boone. But there are quite a few people who are enjoying this moment like any other and taking it as lightly as possible.
